You Have Restored My Faith in Humanity
December 2017. West Los Angeles.
Dear Journal,
Help me find the answers…
- Who am I?
- What do I have to offer the world?
- What does my heart desire?
- Show me
With a book donation in hand, I went for a walk in search of A Little Free Library. In front of the Brentwood Apartments, I passed a woman who was walking a dog, a Corgi. The Corgi’s tail was wagging so I stopped, nodded to the woman and slowly stretched out my hand for the dog to smell me before beginning to pat his head and stroke his fur.
The woman told me how unfriendly people are and how amazing it was that I stopped to say hello to her dog and to her. I listened and shared a few words about how we’re all in this together and taking time for connection is important. She gushed the words, “You have restored my faith in humanity. My wish for you in 2018 is that you receive everything you desire.” I looked her in the eye, held the gaze, thanked her and told her I receive that blessing and I wish the same for her.
After dropping off my book at The Little Free Library in a stranger’s front yard, I hopped on a Little Blue Bus and headed to the Monica Film Center on 2nd street in Santa Monica.
