While writing about different ages this week, I have been contemplating the rock tumbler, sandpaper experiences we need to grow. What is too much rock tumbling? What is possible with some support?
In my 20’s, I graduated from college, started to grow a career, met my future husband, and married him four years later. We bought a house, gave birth to two daughters and I began to explore family patterns of alcoholism, codependency, and childhood trauma with Al-Anon and Family Constellation work.
In my 30’s, I threw an emotional bomb into my patriarchal marriage and into both of our families of origin by speaking out about alcoholism and moving out of the marital home. I had a messy, divorce in court, deepened my spiritual connection in seminars and programs, met my second husband and got married. Lost my job to a layoff. Gave birth to a son who died at nineteen months and a daughter who is now 31 years old. I had a chronic illness, went into remission, started a Shaklee business, and started homeschooling two of our children.
Our 20’s are a time to explore who we are and begin adulting. We try things, fall…
