White Supremacy Culture
“Culture is powerful precisely because it is so present and at the same
time so very difficult to name or identify. The characteristics listed are
damaging because they are used as norms and standards without being pro-actively named or chosen by the group. They are damaging because they promote white supremacy thinking. They are damaging to both people of color and to white people. Let’s look at oppression through the lens of the patriarchal structures that were put into place by a White Supremacist Culture. I am talking about Colonialism and elite white settlers who imposed their culture and beliefs in new worlds. This is where the norms and standards began and where we have been influenced with reinforcement in schools, families, work, and society as a whole.
This is the next step in flipping the script and dismantling an old system.
