Shared Housing

Communal housing is a form of shared housing. Usually, one person or a couple own or rent a home and they open their home to someone else.

Shared Housing is a form of sharing with strangers or joint ownership. Sometimes it is a one-time thing and sometimes a co-creative relationship is formed.

One holiday season, I was staying with my daughter in West Los Angeles for two months. Although we had lived together for long periods of time, even in one of her studio apartments, I was feeling it would be good to have some space around New Year’s Eve. I thought about getting a hotel for a week and someone suggested looking for a pet sitting gig. A friend connected me with a family who was asking friends to watch their dog for four days over New Year’s Eve weekend. It was the perfect match. I had easy access to the beach, a kitchen, WIFI for my coaching business and time to explore the Venice Beach Canals.

There was no money exchange but I saved money on the cost of a hotel, and it felt like a free vacation with a sweet dog companion.
